Along with other students of Harvard professor A. Howard was born Sidney Coe Howard in Oakland, California, the son of Helen Louise Coe and John Lawrence Howard. In the latter case, the award was posthumous he was the first person whose posthumous nomination for an Academy Award was successful. Sidney Howard ( J– August 23, 1939) was an American playwright and screenwriter who became the first person to win both a Pulitzer Prize and an Academy Award.
